Week 5: Environmental Theme Activities | Big Ideas
In this week’s Read at Home activities, we are going to be exploring big ideas around the environment. From the importance of bees, to climate change, to water conservation, this week promises to stretch our brains a bit more and understand how our actions, have a big impact on the environment.
Day 1 starts with an investigation into bees. Without bees, the world would be a very different, and difficult, place in which to live. It is also World Bee Day on the 20th of May this week, and so we thought it would be a perfect way to celebrate these important creatures. Download the activity pack below.
Today, we’re going to investigate sounds and noise in the environment, and read about how noise around the globe has reduced since we’ve been in lockdown. As you can imagine, less noise from humans means that the environment is being heard. Download day two below, and enjoy!
Climate change – a phrase you’ve probably heard being spoken about a lot – is our topic for today. We’re going to unpack what climate change is, and ask some important questions about it, like ‘can hamburgers contribute to climate change’, for instance.
In today’s Read at Home activities, we’re going to explore the topic of Waste and the Seven Rs – rethink, reduce, reuse, recycle, refuse, repurpose and repair. Download the materials for day four below.
We talk about water, and a few ways we can conserve it. Download the materials below, and be sure to try out the experiment we've included.
