Saturday Stories for Youth Day

p6146117

On Saturday 14th June children in Clanwilliam remembered the children and young people who were part of the freedom struggle in South Africa, particularly those involved in the Soweto uprising that will be commemorated on Youth Day, 16th June.

We read stories from a book of children’s writing that was commissioned by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa and first published by the Sunday Times in its educational supplement, ReadRight. The subsequent book, published by Parliament and titled: Every Voice Counts: My stories, Your Stories is now sadly put of print, but much beloved by the children we bring it to.

The book is a collection of 27 stories from all nine provinces with text and illustration by Grade Seven pupils in mostly rural schools. The stories were workshopped and later collated into their final form by a writer and design agency. Anyone interested in bringing this lovely book back into print should contact info@childrensbook.co,za
