On Saturday, a huge truck pulled up at Living Landscape project in Clanwilliam. It brought carefully selected ringing rocks from the Karoo – rock gongs – that will soon become part of a major CBN and University of Cape Town initiative.
Children in Clanwilliam have already begun experimenting with the sounds of the smaller rocks and we are very much looking forward to testing out the big ones, now in place and looking very beautiful after a vigorous wash by a cloud burst.
We will be experimenting with the sounds of the rocks – prerecorded and already worked with by our musical colleagues – and with clapping (including San clapping patterns) humming and singing.
We also anticipate quite a lot of fun on the actual rocks! More news will follow …
