CBN heads for Sweden

In the second part of a shared process of workshops and seminars, Sindiwe Magona and Lesley Beake will visit northern Sweden.

Last October, CBN was delighted to host five visitors from Skelleftea and nearby towns. Four librarians and a drama teacher brought ideas, skills, excitement and inspiration with them – and in their luggage, they had books and games and toys to share with and inspire children at Red Hill informal settlement and Luthando Crèche in the Kayamundi Township outside Stellenbosch. Together, we explored the landscape of children’s reading around Cape Town, meeting many of the people passionately involved with children and reading.

In March 2013 (8th to 24th), it will be time for a return visit, with workshops planned to include as many reading projects, libraries, storytelling groups and seminars as physically possible in two short weeks.

The aim is to share and learn, to teach and to inspire. The process has been exceptional and the results will be seen in the CBN workshops planned for the rest of 2013.

There will also be a meeting and discussion with Rotary Skelleftea that has already raised funds for technical assistance (tablets and e-readers), for workshop tool-kits and for a translation programme that will see texts on our website in indigenous languages.
