CBN REPORT MAY 2025

GENERAL

This is a year of extremely hard work and the culmination of plans that have been in development for the last ten years – building to a crescendo during this one. We have active development as well as funding partners, but we have been going through the inevitable bottleneck when work exceeds capacity. We hope to be able to remedy that situation in the second half of this year.

The stalwart team of Wilien van Zyl (workshops) and Di Parker (financial administration) has backed Lesley to the maximum and stretched their own resources considerably. Lesley now officially works a 20-day month full-time (not including extra hours and days over weekends). Our board continues to offer moral support and encouragement and our auditor goes the extra mile in working with Di Parker to keep out financials up to date. We thank them all.

ADDITIONAL HELP AND TEAM CHANGES

We were sorry to lose admin assistant Ruby Walne, who has gone to study full-time in Cape Town, and her husband, John Chancey who was our dependable technical help with anything electronic. We miss them both but wish them all the best in their new lives.

We were extremely fortunate to lure Toast Coetzer onto the team as editorial and production person and he has taken over a huge load in seeing the reading toolbox handbooks (and other CBN publications) through from final edit to printing. He also assists with workshops and takes amazing photographs for our website.

Susan Abraham continues as the apparently unflappable illustrator and designer in distant Scarborough and has done a beautiful job on the handbooks.

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dee Anderson on the team. She brings a wide range of skills, including intricate knowledge of the book trade and its machinations.
