CHILDREN’S BOOK NETWORK Reading Rescue Plan 2026

CHILDREN’S BOOK NETWORK Reading Rescue Plan 2026

The plan is simple and has three parts:

Find donors for reading toolboxes, or individual reading book-bags. There will be 5 boxes in all (3 are complete and 4 more will be ready by the third term, with the balance by the end of the year.)

Produce one-page reading material (from the handbooks) for every Friday at the end of school for the week. There will be a specially written story on one side, and some reading activities on the other side. CBN will visit at the beginning of every term to give training – to the children as well as the teachers.

Involve the community in book donation (new books) that can mean a hundred books on the reading shelf in each participating classroom.

METHOD

This plan does not involve the already over-exhausted teachers in extra work or admin. Children will be chosen to file books, hand out reading packs and take the register for CBN records. That’s all. Teachers can continue with other responsibilities and just keep an eye on discipline.

WHAT WE NEED

Wholehearted support from Principals

Donors for the Toolboxes

A community reading rescuer to head-up community support.

Funding from the community for the 100 books (CBN will assist, but not fund this)

Some funding for the CBN training visits once a term and the printing of reading packs.

Connections with other reading organizations to ensure no re-inventing of wheels.
