Week 4: Environmental Theme Activities
In this week’s Read at Home activities, we are going to be exploring our environment using our five senses: hearing, sight, touch, taste and smell.
DAY 1 - SENSE OF HEARING
Today, we are going to be exploring the sense of hearing, and how wonderful it is to be able to experience nature through sound. Download the lesson plan below.
DAY 2 - SENSE OF SIGHT
Today, we are going to be exploring the sense of sight. And how important our vision is! It helps you to see colours, to see emotions on other people’s faces, to get an idea of distance and depth, to perceive shapes, and to truly experience the beauty and joy of nature. Download the lesson plan and reading below!
DAY 3 - SENSE OF TOUCH
In today’s lesson, we’re going to be exploring nature through the sense of touch. Your skin is in immediate contact with the world. Using your sense of touch allows you to tell if something is hot or cold, sharp or dull, rough or smooth, wet or dry – and so many other sensations. Download the reading and activities below.
DAY 4 - SENSE OF TASTE
In today’s lesson, we are going to be investigating our sense of taste and pause for a minute while we appreciate the delicious things that nature has to offer us!
Did you know that our sense of taste depends on our sense of smell? We’ll talk about that here, too! Download the activity and Nali'bali reading for day 4 below.
DAY 5 - SENSE OF SMELL
Our final lesson for the week, explores our sense of smell. In the activity for this lesson, we hope to inspire you by looking at the memories you have associated with certain smells. Download the activities and reading for day 5 below.
BONUS - GRUFFALO CRUMBLE
“Gruffalo crumble!” the Gruffalo said, and quick as the wind he turned and fled.
