Friends of CBN in our early days

pb085269

Where would any of us be without friends? CBN is grateful that we have (possibly) the best in the world!

One of the goals of CBN is to offer friendship to other organizations concerned with reading – many of which have been successfully working hard for decades. There is no need for paperwork, memorandums of agreements, constitutions and the like, just friendship.

The Franschhoek Symposium in April 2013 (see link below) started the process. We hope it will continue when Centre for the Book hosts the next informal gathering in November and then beyond that ….

Organizations represented were:

Bookchat – www.bookchat.co.za
Centre for the Book – www.nlsa.ac.za
Nal’ibali – www.nalibali.org
Biblionef – www.biblionefsa.org.za
IBBY SA – www.ibbysa.org.za
BookMark – Kathy@bestbookmark.co.za (no website)
FUNDZA – http://www.fundza.co.za/

Rotary

We have been given every encouragement and a great deal of practical help by Rotary in different contexts, most notably by:

• Rotary Cape of Good Hope
• Rotary Skelleftea

CBN is now part of the Rotary Literacy Project in the Western Cape.

CBN (Sweden)

We wouldn’t be as far forward without the help and above all energy of four Swedish librarians and a drama teacher who cheered from the sidelines as we got underway and then got on a plane and came over to roll up their sleeves. Many thanks to:

• Rose-Marie Lindfors
• Anna Holmström Degerman
• Gunilla Brink
• Synneva Byrkjeland
• Maria Nordenback

Again, no paperwork, but this tireless group have decided to be known as CBN (Swedish Branch).

Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project

We have already given one workshop at this venue in the Cederberg Mountains. More will follow during the second half of 2013 and into 2014. For more information on this project go to:

Andrea Dondolo and Thandi Witbooi of Women Unite who performed for us at the Swedish Red hill workshop

Musicians

Drummers form Senegal – Kabbo and Basse – have enlivened the Red Hill workshops with their wonderful sound.
The Choir of the University of Cape Town worked with children in Clanwilliam on music based on stories from the area.
Violinist Anele Mhlahlo is now a member of our board as well as working closely with us in workshops and planning.

Volunteers

Tamaryn Sutherland deserves special mention as the person who flew into action on the first Red Hill project in June 2012. We wish her well in her new life in Germany.

Rosemary Bangham is used to frantic, last minute requests for design work and helping at workshops. She now works for us on an horly part-time basis.

Rose Bundock is assisting with CBN involvement in the new Red Hill Library, including writing reports and social media.
